Passionate about breaking down barriers and changing the perception of mental health services in minority communities, Shawnnell has been at the forefront of this mission for almost 20 years.As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Boundary-Centered Practitioner, her mission is clear: “I'm here to empower women of color to safeguard their precious energy. ️ I believe that embracing healthy boundaries is a powerful act of self-care and self-love.”

Associate Therapist

Alec Duran is a distinguished Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) with a rich educational background, having earned his Masters of Clinical Psychology from Vanguard Graduate Program in Santa Ana, CA. His academic journey is complemented by a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Vanguard University.


Alec is certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), reflecting his specialized expertise in handling trauma-related cases. Currently serving as a Mental Health Counselor at Anchor Counseling & Education Solutions, LLC in Irvine, CA, Alec dedicates his skills to supporting students through therapy in line with their Individualized Education Programs (IEP). Recognized for his scholarly excellence as a Psychology Savant, Alec continues to influence the field with his deep commitment to clinical psychology and mental health advocacy.

Michelle Edwards, AMFT

Michelle is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist in California with 7+ years of experience helping adults, teens, and families navigate crisis, substance use recovery, and mental health challenges.



She specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), guiding clients to reframe negative thoughts and build healthier perspectives.

Almease Byrd, LCSW, PPSC (she/her), is the Co-founder of Justice is Joy and was honored as a Hero in Education by the Los Angeles School Board. With nearly 20 years of experience, she specializes in culturally responsive, strengths-based mental health services across schools, healthcare, corrections, foster care, and private practice.

Almease is known for innovative clinical supervision, empowering service providers to lead with efficacy and uphold ethical practices. Her work focuses on creating inclusive, restorative, and impactful approaches that foster safe and supportive environments.



A wife, mother of three, and author of Be Safe and Mighty, Almease holds a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Southern California.
